Holy Communion is a part of all worship services on the first Sunday of the month.
If you are attending the online worship service, we know you won’t have the exact same elements that we use when we are in worship in the sanctuary. Gather any variety or wine or fruit juice, and any kind of bread product.
If you are receiving communion at any worship service, please complete an electronic communion card.

9:15-9:30 Arrival. Kids play and socialize. 9:30-9:45 Learn through song and movement. 9:45-10:00 Storytime. 10:00-10:20 Fun activity, snack, socialize. 10:20-10:30 Clean up
Families are welcome to join this new opportunity for a themed story time each month. Caregivers are encouraged to socialize while the children learn and play together. No registration required, just come and enjoy!

Prayer Shawl Ministry The prayer shawl ministry (knitters and crocheters) meets in the prayer room on the first and third Thursdays of each month, from 1:00-3:00pm. If you are unable to attend the meeting but still want to participate, contact the office to be included on email communications.
Prayer shawls are made full of prayers for the recipients. Our hope is that when the shawl is worn, they can feel the warmth of Jesus’ support, guidance and love. If you know of someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl, please contact the Zion office.

Our annual block party will take place on August 12, from 5-8 pm. The block party is one of the ways Redeemer Church, and partnering churches like yours, reach out to love our neighbors in the Harrison community of north Minneapolis. For those who attended last year's block party, you can attest to how this joyous community event brought together diverse cultures for an evening of food, music, dancing, and so much more. It was FUN, FUN, FUN. This year's block party promises to be the same fun-filled, joyous event.
Please consider donating new backpacks for kids that will be handed out to the Harrison community of North Minneapolis. Backpacks can be dropped off at Zion Lutheran Church in the collection bin by the front office until August 9.

(June 2026) “I am created in God’s image. No matter what anyone else says.” We’ll begin with the story of God’s creation and the “very goodness” that is spoken over every human being, hearing how those scriptures can be read as invitations to new freedom, community and vocation for people, regardless of gender, for all people were made in God’s image.
(July 2026) “I am more than one thing: Honoring our many identities.” In her TED talk, “The Danger of a Single Story,” Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie names this truth: We are much more than one thing. All of us have intersecting identities, roles and responsibilities. In this session, we’ll explore how the multiple identities of several women in Scripture shape their faithful living. Esther is not just a queen, but a niece, as well as part of an oppressed community of faith. Ruth is so much more than just a widow. Mary Magdalene has more identities than can fit within the allowed word count of this paragraph. So do you!
(August 2026) “I am because you are: We need one another.” Our individual identities are always bound up in community. Jesus describes this vision using a vine and branches. Archbishop Desmond Tutu describes this way of mutual interconnectedness as “Ubuntu,” where “my humanity is caught up and bound up inextricably with yours. I can only be fully me if you are fully you.” In delving into Scripture, we learn how no one can flourish unless everyone does, and how our lives are bound up with one another and the planet.

2026 Zion Annual Golf Outing
This year’s event will be on Monday, August 24, 2026 at Albion Ridges Golf Course.
* The format will again be a Four Person Team Scramble with a 12 noon shotgun start. * Registration will be open at 10:00 am. * The cost is $100/golfer which includes golf with a cart, a bag lunch, and three side games * Sign up online with online payment or drop by church and pay with cash/check. * If you don’t have a full team, we will get you paired up with others. Signups close August 20th.
The money raised this year during Zion's golfing fundraiser will go to Mission Jamaica. Our congregation and community have been involved in several mission trips to Jamaica through an organization called "Mission Jamaica," one of our mission partners. The mission teams traveling to Jamaica typically have three primary focuses.
1. A Medical team will travel out into the community and provide medical care to residents. 2. A Care team will visit and work at the West Haven Orphanage to help provide care and companionship to the residences. 3. A Construction team will assist in the building of a Ja'bode Home for a family in great need of a better place to live.
This year we are golfing to raise funds to buy the building materials to build a Ja'bode home or two in early 2027. These homes are very basic four walled structures constructed on a concrete foundation. The cost of the building materials for one Ja'bode home is approximately $7,500. We are partnering with St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover to raise funds for two homes.
The mission travelers all pay their own way to travel and stay in Jamaica. Therefore, all the funds we raise during the golf outing fundraiser will buy building materials for Ja'bode homes.
Contribute to this year's important fundraiser. Your contribution is greatly appreciated and needed.
