Condolences to the family of Diane Moen.  A service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church at 11 am on Saturday, January 3 with visitation at 10:00 am. Lunch to follow.

Diane Jane (Johnson) Moen, aged 73, of Buffalo, Minnesota passed away peacefully on December 18th, 2025. She will be deeply missed.

Diane was born November 3rd, 1952 in Hendricks, Minnesota to parents Milton and Verona (Aune) Johnson. Diane attended Hendricks High school graduating in 1970. She then graduated from Augsburg University, where following the completion of her degree she had a very fulfilling career as a social worker. She was formerly employed with Ebenezer Society in Minneapolis, Howard Lake Good Samaritan Society, and Lakeridge Care Center of Buffalo.

On October 4th, 1975 Diane was joined in holy matrimony with her loving husband Darryl Moen in Hendricks, Minnesota. God blessed their marriage with two sons. What Diane loved most of all was spending time with her family; she was especially devoted and proud of her three grandchildren. During her free time, she was also known to love traveling. Some of her favorite places she had travelled were on an Alaskan Cruise with her husband Darryl; Norway with her dear friend Mary Ratzlaff, where she got to visit extended family; she loved travelling to California to visit her brother and his family; and the summers spent at Black Duck Lake, where she enjoyed being out on the water.

Diane is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Darryl Moen; sons Scott (Kristin) Moen of Lakeville, MN and Aaron (Natalie) Moen of Becker, MN; grandchildren Tryggve, Halvor, and Dane; siblings Vickie Hammer of Hendricks, MN and Dennis (Marita) Johnson of San Marcos, CA; as well as many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Diane Moen will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo on Saturday, January 3rd 2026 at 11:00 AM.
A visitation will be held at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Friday, January 2nd from 4 – 7 PM.

Casket bearers will be: Troy Grengs, Brent Grengs, John Hammer, Jeff Hammer, Jeff Seyfert, and Eric Moen.

Holy Communion is a part of all worship services on the first Sunday of the month.

If you are attending the online worship service, we know you won’t have the exact same elements that we use when we are in worship in the sanctuary. Gather any variety or wine or fruit juice, and any kind of bread product.

If you are receiving communion at any worship service, please complete an electronic communion card.

Sunday School is offered for age 3 to grade 5 during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.

Zion's Sunday School program follows a large group/small group model. Children will begin in worship with their families and then attend Sunday School after the Children's Message. When the children’s message is over, kids will gather for large group time to join in fun music, videos, activities, and skits to learn about the bible stories. After large group, kids will then follow their teachers to a classroom for small group time. Small group time is a time to dig deeper, ask questions, make crafts, do experiments, build friendships, and strengthen our relationship with God.

Confirmation for students in 6th - 8th grade will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:45pm beginning October 1.
  • All incoming 6th graders and new to confirmation students are being asked to register HERE.
  • Those previously enrolled need not register again.

Confirmation isn’t just an academic process or a requirement for membership at Zion. It’s about forming Christ-followers. Confirmation at Zion is a carefully designed program – one that is designed to bring youth to a closer understanding of God’s Word, their savior Jesus Christ, and the Church as a whole.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The prayer shawl ministry (knitters and crocheters) meets in the prayer room on the first and third Thursdays of each month, from 1:00-3:00pm.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but still want to participate, contact the office to be included on email communications.

Prayer shawls are made full of prayers for the recipients. Our hope is that when the shawl is worn, they can feel the warmth of Jesus’ support, guidance and love.
If you know of someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl, please contact the Zion office.

New Member Orientation

You are invited to attend New Member Connect. This is for both those who are brand new to Zion and those who have been around for many years and just not gotten around to becoming an official member.

Membership is one way of connecting to this faith community.  Membership affirms that we are connected together for the mission of this congregation and for the mutual development of our faith in Christ Jesus. “New Member Connect” is an opportunity to spend time in conversation with Zion pastors, staff, and others and to find out more about our mission and vision before committing to membership.

Gather in the Sacred Grounds youth room, where we will have a comfortable spot waiting for you! Children are welcome and the nursery is open and staffed during this time as well. Coffee, juice, and light breakfast choices will be provided.
